Nenagh's David Hogan defeated Vincent Muldoon 4-2 in the final of the Under-21 Championships last Saturday in Shannon. Both players are now confirmed for the World Under-21 Championships in France this summer along with
Johnny Williams. Cork's Greg Casey will be nominated as a reserve player for the event.
The event saw both the No.1 and No.2 seed through to the semi finals however some of the other top seeds fell by the wayside in the early rounds. Galway's Stephen Killoran was in fine form all day and accounted for Karl
Fitzpatrick, Johnny Williams and Sean Conway on the way to the semi finals. In the other half 14 year old Andrew Gray disposed of No.4 seed Greg Casey and No.5 seed Jason Devaney to set up a match with Waterford club mate
Muldoon.
Muldoon ran out a 3-1 winner over Gray in the end after some very tight frames who took the high break prize for the day with a 74 break. The other semi final saw Hogan struggle to see off Killoran who battled all the way
with the Irish No.4. Hogan however ran out a 3-2 winner taking the last frame with ease to set up a repeat of last years final.
The final was not a classic affair with both players evenly match throughout however Hogan made the most of his chances and ran out a 4-2 winner to regain the title he won in 2006.
